Photography

The Daintree Coast stretches from the Daintree River to Cape Tribulation, and offers many photographic opportunities for photographers of all ages, interests and levels of expertise, especially taking living things in their natural environment.

Rainforest, Beaches and Reef

There are many places that are accessible to the photographer where the rainforest actually comes to meet with the beach and fringing reefs and offers several entirely different and contrasting photo opportunities.

Coral Sea

If you take to the waters of the Coral Sea by boat, kayak, or simply swim out from the shore, you can easily photograph many spectacular and amazing things such as sea turtles, fish, and the occasional whale and of coarse the coral reefs from both above and below the water. The dive boats have underwater cameras for purchase.

Photos from above

There are spectacular views to be photographed from the lookouts and high points that overlook the beaches, river mouths and/or surrounding rainforest. There are also scenic air flights available that can be used to photograph the rainforest, reef and rivers of the area.

River Photography

The Daintree River is home to 31 mangroves species which makes it one of the most special and species–rich estuaries in the world. The tour boats provide an ideal opportunity to get some close up shots of these mangroves.

Different types of river tours and boat sizes give you different photographic options. Some boat tours start touring at sunrise, which is the best time for bird photography. The best opportunity for basking crocodile photos is in winter at low tide, during the day time.

Some river cruises have night spotlighting tours — good for photographing fruit bats, crocodiles and sleeping birds.
