Cooper Creek Wilderness

Cooper Creek Wilderness occupies the centrepiece of the last remnant of the oldest-surviving rainforest in the world.  A Gondwanan rainforest relict that has survived more than 135-million years, where ancient plants like the "green dinosaur" remain as living proof of its persistence over the millenia.  Containing the most extensive remnant populations of primitive angiosperms (flowering plant families) in the world, Cooper Creek Wilderness occupies the epicenter of this refugial treasure and is ideally positioned to showcase World Heritage values to visitors from around the world, through a variety of unique experiences:

CCW1 - Guided Interpreted Day Tours

2-hour guided, interpreted day tour through the grandeur and beauty of the fan palm forests, explaining genera of great rarity, superlative natural phenomena, cultural heritage significance and areas of exceptional natural beauty.

CCW2 - Guided Interpreted Night Tours

2-hour guided, interpreted NOCTURNAL tour that ethically immerses participants into the very depths of the world’s oldest surviving rainforest, showcasing the authenticity of the nocturnal landscape and particularly in terms of its habitat values.

CCW3 - Cooper Creek Wilderness  Experience

Designed to showcase the richer diversity of natural and cultural heritage values within the prestigious Cooper Creek catchment by day; a five to six-hour package, comprising a two-hour guided, interpreted rainforest walk, a one-hour cruise through the world’s most diverse mangrove community in search of elusive estuarine crocodiles, lunch in an idyllic setting beside a rainforest stream and time to absorb the invigorating attributes of Cooper Creek (conditions permitting).

CCW4 - Combination Day & Night Package

Access to the inner-secrets of a forbidden forest will always be an elusive undertaking, but no greater determination can be made than through the combination of a two-hour guided day-walk, a one-hour cruise through the mangroves in search of the elusive crocodiles, lunch in a rainforest setting with access to the invigorating blue waters of Cooper Creek (weather permitting), an evening meal and a guided, interpreted night tour.

CCW5 - Private Charters

Birdwatching, photography, educational groups, families, etc., might prefer to negotiate access conditions that better suit their particular interests through private charter arrangements, which can be organised for particular needs upon enquiry.  Private Charter Rates: $200 per hour (1 to 6 pax) PLUS $25 per person per hour (7 to 12 pax).

CCW6 - Greater Wilderness

Finally, a rainforest experience that showcases the best of the world's oldest surviving rainforest - without modification! Travelers to tropical north Queensland are directed into a variety of 'Daintree Rainforests' featuring artificial structures including boardwalks, vehicle-based tours, bike-riding, horse-riding, bunjy-jumping, parachuting, hang-gliding, zip-lining, cable-gondolas ... the choices are incredible. But the greatest difficulty would seem to be the getting into pristine rainforest without any gimmickry at all. Genuine old-growth rainforest, spectacular in its grandeur is presented not through the construction and maintenance of a formal trail network, but rather through the knowledge and memory of the inhabitant guide. Over twelve months of familiarisation has brought a new concept of a longer, more intensive guided tour to fruition. The rewards are quite clearly beyond those that have become so familiar from our formal network of presentation trails. Unadulterated wilderness has been particularly gratifying for a determined minority of travellers.
