Gordon and Gail recently purchased 2 Daintree operations, Nice n Easy tours and also the Daintree Rainforest Rivertrain, hence the new all encompassing name Daintree Spirit. We can now offer you two completely different experiences along the Daintree River with two completely different vessels.
The original and iconic Spirit of Daintree, now in its 18th year of operation, and also the renamed Daintree Spirit a much smaller and more intimate vessel with a license to carry 20 passengers.
Bringing many years experience in the tourism and outdoor pursuit industries, both Gordon and Gail are ready to embrace all the challenges that the new enterprise has to offer. If you are a previous client of Nice n Easy tours, you will be pleased to know that, Bill, the former driver, is still with the company - offering his own brand of humour.
The 1.5 hour cruise allows your expert guide to share his vast knowledge and passion for the wildlife on the Daintree River (15 years experience). We see Crocodiles and a variety of Birds on all tours and often see Snakes, Frogs etc as well.
The cruise takes you into small creeks under the rainforest canopy, the mainstream of the river and into the mangroves. With a maximum seating of 21 we have one of the smaller boats allowing us to get in closer for a greater appreciation of this complex but fascinating ecosystem.
The large saltwater crocs are certainly impressive to watch, but also are the beautiful kingfishers among other bird species.
Relax, enjoy and admire with complimentary refreshments available on all cruises.
Gail greets you before your tour and over a cup of tea or coffee can give you information and local tips on the area. Come and see Gail at the ticket booth (400 metres before the car ferry) for information on the whole Daintree - Cape Tribulation area.
1.5 hour tours depart at 9.30am, 11.00am, 1.00pm and 2.30pm. Cost is $28.00 per person (half price for children from 4 to 14).
The Daintree River has it's very own tourism Icon - The Daintree Rainforest Rivertrain.
Built from fibreglass, the Rivertrain consists of seven independent carriages/vessels. Powered by three tiny 9.9hp 4 stroke outboard motors mounted inboard, the vessel boasts the lowest fuel consumption (per passenger) on the river. When traveling, the eco-certified Rivertrain leaves no wave or wake that for other tour boats devastate the fragile riverbanks, causing erosion. The Rivertrain closely follows the contours of the riverbank and can wind through estuarine creeks and tributaries. Uniquely, the vessel can even manoeuvre in/out parallel to the riverbank and any attractions the guides identify. The Rivertrain is the most spacious vessel on the river and could be considered a 20 metre viewing platform where everyone has a "window" seat. Each carriage can seat up to 10 passengers - you can often have a whole carriage to yourself too. With a higher viewing position from the water level than other boats we can offer a better perspective for viewing flora and fauna.
Enjoy one hour or 1.5 hr Eco Accredited wildlife cruises. The Rivertrain exclusively offers two wildlife guides on every trip to maximise ALL wildlife opportunities. Similarly, this UNIQUE floating train (boat really), is the only cruise to offer an array of onboard exhibits — croc skull & teeth, mangrove seeds, Indigenous artifacts, native palms, deadly Box Jellyfish, wildlife photo albums & more. Learn about mangrove ecosystems, saltwater tidal zones, local history, Wet Tropics World Heritage Rainforest & most certainly Crocodiles, birds, frogs, snakes, bats...the lot!
Many other tours rely on following the boat in front. For an exclusive tour of the river with excellent views, the Rivertrain often cruises downstream from the ferry crossing where others have no experience, see islands, creeks, mountain ranges & more.
Tour 1 - 1hr River nature eco cruise, $25 Adult, $12 for children from 4 to 14.
Tour 2 - 1.5hr nature eco cruise, $30 Adult, $15 for children from 4 to 14.
Group rates are available on request and we also have seating capacity for 64 persons on the Daintree Rivertrain.
